Tower Hamlets Residents Vow to Reclaim Streets from Drugs and Alcohol Abuse
Local residents in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets have united to address the drugs and alcohol abuse plaguing the community.
The grassroots-led Communities Against Drugs and Alcohol Abuse (CADAA), which was launched on Tuesday 27 August at the London Muslim Centre, conducts regular voluntary outreach in the various ‘hotspot’ areas. Nearly 40 residents regularly conduct outreach work in the Spitalfields area alone, targeting young people; other residents distributed literature on the risk, signs and effects of drugs and alcohol abuse.
S. Islam, Chair of CADAA announced that “in addition to the outreach sessions, the launch-seminar on 27 August was part of a series of seminars, where members of the public can directly engage in conversation with community leaders, council officials and drugs agencies. I am delighted that prominent figures were able to attend our first seminar.”
Attended by over 300 people from diverse backgrounds, the seminar featured, amongst others, the Mayor of LBTH Cllr Abus Salik, Imam Abdul Qayyum of The East London Mosque, Rev. Alan Green from Tower Hamlets Interfaith Forum, Dilowar Hussian Khan, Secretary-General of the Islamic Forum of Europe and Council Leader Cllr Luthfur Rahman.
The organisers are optimistic that this will be a viable initiative, focusing on the need for the community working together, to tackle the menace of drugs and alcohol abuse.

The Pilgrimage To Makkah |

Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.
