Statement in response to Dispatches programme, 1 March 2010

The IFE wholly rejects the allegations made against it by Andrew Gilligan in the latest episode of Channel 4’s “Dispatches”.

It is untrue that:

1. the IFE supports extremism;

2. the IFE seeks to establish an Islamic State
or ‘Caliphate’ in Britain;

3. the IFE seeks to impose Sharia Law in Britain;

4. the IFE has “infiltrated” Tower Hamlets Labour Party;

5. the IFE has received public funds or “Prevent” funding.

It is noteworthy that Dispatches provided no evidence for these allegations, relying instead on sensationalist presentation techniques and ‘undercover reporting’ which revealed absolutely no wrongdoing.

We are confident that our members and the wider community will reject the distorted and alarmist manner in which “Dispatches” has seen fit to portray our voluntary organisation which in reality exists solely to further the following aims:

1. Aspire to Good

2. Outreach and Awareness

3. Collective Community Endeavour

4. Renewal Through Education

5. Seeking Fairness & Goodness for All
